We offer suggestions for sightseeing in Dinan and the surrounding area, depending on the length of your stay in our bed and breakfast. Our region is full of hidden gems, so we recommend a 5 or 6 night stay, without having to pack your bags… all while enjoying the comfort of Villa Émeraude!

Day 1: Dinan, the medieval streets, the ramparts and the port; Léhon: Saint Magloire Abbey on the banks of the Rance

Day 2: Saint Malo, the corsair city, the Sillon beach, the most beautiful villages of the Rance estuary

Day 3: Cancale: the port and the oysters, the Pointe du Grouin; Mont Saint Michel, the abbey and the bay

Day 4: Dinard, the Écluse beach and the Art Deco villas; the seaside resorts of the Emerald Coast: Saint-Lunaire, Saint-Briac

Day 5: Cape Fréhel, the wild moor and the lighthouse; Fort La Latte overlooking the sea.


Detailed program:

Day 1:

Dinan: park near the castle, and wander through the medieval streets of old Dinan: the clock tower, Place St Sauveur with the basilica, the English garden and the view of the port from the Ste Catherine Tower on the ramparts, Place des Merciers and the church of St Malo and its stained glass windows, Dinan castle, the medieval rue du Jerzual which leads down to the port,

Option to have lunch at the port and visit the Yvonne Jean-Haffen Museum.The house of La Grande Vigne, where the painter lived throughout the 20th century, was bequeathed by the artist to the municipality along with his collection of works.

During the season, it's possible to take the little train from Place Duclos for a sightseeing tour of Dinan, and the Jaman boat on the canal from the port to Léhon.

St Magloire Abbey in Léhon , with parking nearby, the town of Léhon classified as a "Small town of character" and the Léhon lock on the other bank of the Ille and Rance canal, a little downstream.

For a more in-depth visit of Dinan:

- park near the train station or the Jean Monnet car park (free),

-pass in front of the station built in 1931, in Art Deco style, (see the interior mosaics by Odorico, which are listed as historical monuments) and the station buffet recently renovated (Brasserie Zaï Zaï);

- Join the northern ramparts, renovated in 2025, via Rue Carnot, up to the St Malo gate, and wander through the medieval streets of old Dinan…

- possibility of reaching the port of Dinan on foot (or by bicycle) from the abbey of Léhon via the canal towpath (2km)

Day 2:

  • St Malo, corsair city: Sillon beach, the ramparts and the walled city (Rollinger Spices shops, Bordier Butter…); visit to a corsair's house: the residence of Corsaire 5 Rue d'Asfeld

 

Options : visit to the frigate Etoile du Roy, hike to Pointe de La Varde, Solidor Tower and the city of Alet (Fort and 39/45 memorial), Grand Aquarium of Saint Malo, visit to the Malouinière de la Ville Bague in St Coulomb (between Cancale and St Malo), Jacques Cartier's house (Manoir de Limoëlou, Rue David Macdonald Stewart), sea trips in the bay of Saint Malo with the Compagnie Corsaire, boat crossing St Malo – Dinard…

Option: Rance Valley with its typical villages and sites:

- North of Dinan: the Chatelier lock and the Lyvet port, the Prat mill (restored historic tidal mill), the Mordreuc slipway, Saint-Suliac (classified as the most beautiful village in France) and its port, the Rance tidal power plant at La Richardais/Dinard.

- South of Dinan: the site of the 11 locks at Hédé-Bazouges, 30km away, linking the Ille river to the Rance to form the Ille and Rance canal

Day 3:

  • Cancale and the oyster market (oyster farm visits by reservation), hiking to Pointe du Grouin (starting line of the Route du Rhum).

  • Mont Saint-Michel is 50 minutes from the house (preferably after 3 pm during peak season). Mont Saint-Michel is one of the must-see attractions in our region: the village, the abbey, the bay...

Optional : Guided tours of the bay

 

Day 4:

  • Dinard , from the beach at the lock, walk along the seafront on the GR34 coastal path:

o On the west side, below the house at Roches Brunes, return via one of the interior streets,

o East side: Moulinet point with return via one of the interior streets,

o From Prieuré beach, head east towards the Rance estuary as far as the Vicomté point and return via Avenue Bruzo and its magnificent houses

  • St Lunaire – St Briac

o St Lunaire: the tip of the Décolé with the beautiful villas on the peninsula

o St Briac: From the parking lot of the Dinard Golf course, take the GR34 and make the loop around the Golf course on the sea side and up to the Nessay peninsula, then return via the inland streets.

Options: St Jacut de la mer and the Pointe du Chevet: beaches, possibility of reaching the Ebihens islands at low tide during spring tides, St Cast le Guildo seaside resort with a very beautiful beach, climb up to the semaphore to enjoy a panoramic view from St Malo to Cap Fréhel

Day 5:

  • Cape Fréhel

  • Fort La Latte (or Château de la Roche Goyon - 14th century)Located on a rocky promontory overlooking the sea, this fort has been the setting for several film scenes. Visits to the fort are possible.

Hiking is possible starting from Pointe de la Touche, following the GR34 to go around Cap Fréhel (return possible by cutting through the roads and inland paths of the cape)
